List of Other Ministries
Acolytes. Those young people who have made their first Holy Communion are eligible to serve at the altar. We have nearly 35 youth acolytes who have received training for their ministry. As servers gain seniority, they are introduced to greater responsibilities in worship.
The Altar Guild, divided into four teams, is responsible for the care of vestments and vessels used at the altar, and decoration of the church for the feasts and seasons of the church year.
Blanket Blessings provides blankets/shawls for those receiving the Sacrament of Baptism, graduating seniors and to those suffering illness or loss of a loved one.
Chalice Bearers. A number of our adult parishioners are licensed by the Bishop to administer the Chalice at the Eucharist.
Choir & Music. This dedicated group lends their voices to the 10am Sung Eucharist, offering the best in the Anglican choral tradition and world music.
Confirmation Mentors. Our youth confirmands are paired with an adult for Confirmation instruction and mentoring.
Daughters of the King is an Order for Episcopal women founded in 1885. We are a prayer and service group who meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 10:00am. We regularly take part in worship, study, and aid our Clergy as asked.
EYC. Our youth group meets on Sunday afternoons for fun, fellowship and learning.
Fitness for Saints meets three times a week for exercise in a warm, supporting environment.
The Flower Guild provides beautiful creations each Sunday of the year. Flowers are taken to the sick and shut-in by the Daughters of the King.
Pub Theology meets on an occasional basis for a meal in a local pub, followed by a talk by a guest speaker.
Readers. A rotation of over 30 readers read the Old Testament Lesson and lead the Prayers of the People on Sundays and weekday services.
St. James' Day School: The mission of St. James’ Day School, founded by Saint James’ Church in 1948, is to educate students in a safe and nurturing environment that instills high intellect, character, and compassion—challenging them academically, physically, and spiritually to achieve their highest potential as confident individuals and future leaders.
The Santiago Foundation serves as the Endowment Fund of St James’. The Board of the Foundation is elected by the Vestry.
Sunday School. Our academic year is divided into two blocks, with classes for every age. About 40 volunteers teach and assist in Sunday School and the Children’s Liturgy of the Word.
Ushers welcome those who attend our services, hand out bulletins, familiarize visitors and ‘direct traffic’ during worship.
The Vestry, elected by parishioners at the Annual Parish meeting, serves as the board of St James’, with particular responsibility for finances and property, and a council of advice to the Rector.
