Fr. Richard Daly called to Saint James' Church as Parochial Vicar
Father Richard Daly has been called to serve as the Parochial Vicar of St James'. He was born in Chicago, but his father’s family has been in Texas since the 1840s. He has served as curate at Trinity Church, Wauwatosa, WI. He was then the rector of St. Peter’s, Sheboygan Falls, WI, before receiving the call as rector of St. Stephen’s Church, Sherman, TX in this diocese.
During 1998, Fr Daly was presented an opportunity to become a chaplain with the Chicago police department. He was initially told he needed to attend the police academy and have at least three years of “street” experience before being made a chaplain. Twenty years later, he was still on the beat, working some of Chicago’s most challenging neighborhoods. In the department, Fr Daly has worked as a Field Training Officer supervising new recruits, and for the last two years as a Community Policing Officer, where he spent most of his time developing partnerships between the police department and the community. His post-seminary graduate work includes pastoral psychotherapy, addiction counseling, and crisis intervention.
While serving as a police officer, he also served as interim-rector of St. Raphael’s, Oak Lawn, IL. From 2002 to 2016 he was the assisting priest at St. Paul’s, Riverside, IL and in 2017 was priest in charge following the Rector’s retirement.
Fr Daly is married to Diana. Their children are Nik, Sarah, Rebecca and Rachel. They have one granddaughter, Victoria. Father and Diana enjoy taking cruises.
By appointment of the Bishop, Father will have the additional responsibility for All Saints’, Atlanta.
Please join us in welcoming Fr. Daly and Diana to the Saint James' family.
