"Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20

Saint James' Church exists...

To honor and glorify God by obeying Jesus' command to make disciples of all nations, and to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.

Who we are:

We are a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, and a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion, an authentic branch of God's one Holy, catholic, and Apostolic Church.

Local Episcopalians met on October 30, 1876 to begin organizing the Parish, and we have been serving the greater Texarkana area faithfully at the corner of 5th Street and Olive Street ever since.

Our members are from all walks of life, and many different backgrounds.  We have both "cradle" Episcopalians, as well as many who have come to the Episcopal Church from different faith backgrounds, and some who had no previous history with God or his Church.  We welcome all who come with a sincere desire to worship God and learn about him.

Our Style of Worship:

We believe in the beauty of Holiness,

and the Holiness of beauty.

We adhere to the practices and beliefs of the Anglo-Catholic tradition of Anglican church, meaning that we observe some of the reforms of the Protestant reformation in England yet we retain most of the traditional, liturgical style of worship that dates back to the earliest days of the Christian Church.   In many ways, our style of worship is very similar to a traditional Roman Catholic Mass.

Our choral Masses are accompanied by a beautiful pipe organ and a choir in vestments (except during the summer months, when they take a well-deserved break).   We believe that those who worship with us each week are not mere spectators, but are actual participants in our devotions, and that each person adds to our collective worship experience by their presence and participation.    We sing both traditional and contemporary hymns and anthems from all eras of Christian music.

What you can expect from us:

  • We will welcome you warmly in Christ's name
  • We will treat you with respect and Christian charity
  • We we honor your contributions to our communal life
  • We will share our rich tradition of faith and worship with you freely
